An Interesting perspective....

So I am almost 32 weeks pregnant and decided to pick up the old book (which every mom knows the name of) last week to see what I should be expecting. I read through the stuff like it was common day stuff, and then sat back a tiny bit disgusted. This chapter didn’t tell me anything about the real life stuff that I was going through. This is my second baby, I know what Braxton Hicks are, I know the difference between gas and pre labor….

So I decided that there needs to be a book about the real experiences of pregnancy (and maybe there is one, so please tell me about it). These are the things it should include;

- At this point in your pregnancy you will only want to wear sweat pants, and your current sweats are probably starting to feel tight, so buy new ones!

- The nesting has probably began, but you are to exhausted to do all of the cool stuff you did with your first child. So don’t feel bad about that, just do your best.

- Although in theory having your kids 2 years apart sounds great, remember that when you are tired and irritable in your third trimester of pregnancy, your older babe will be in the thralls of her terrible twos….JOY!

- Dont hate your husband, don’t hate your husband, don’t hate your husband. He really is doing his best.

- You have probably let your hair get a bit unmanageable…thats fine. Its called a ponytail and people will understand. But try to make your daughters hair look acceptable so the that you don’t look like a neglectful parent.

- You can’t see your toes, but they are still there and you need to take care of them. So get a pedicure and some proper footwear….like the comfy kind that are good for your back and totally ugly.

- Although you are out of breath from putting on your shoes and break a sweat picking up toys, that doesn’t mean you are getting exercise.

Im sure more will come up, but those are a few that have crossed my mind lately…

Now that Em sings for about 7 hours a day I have heard some great versions of her favorite kids songs. Here are a few of my favorites;

-While singing “Old McDonalds Farm” she sings “….and Elmo’s farm it has a cat…E I E I O”

- While singing “Twinkle Twinkle” she sings ” Yike a diamond in da sky, your pretty in da sky”

- While singing “Happy Birthday” (her favorite song these days) we hear “Happy birthday to you, happy birthday Emerson and then Cohen and baba and leah and daddy and happy birthday cupcakes to you”

But my very favorite is the medley we get of all of these songs. She sings to Hamish, her babies, me…it really doesn’t matter as long as she can have you undivided attention. Love her.

This might make me want a mv a bit more. MAYBE….

Our little family got home from our first official family vacation a few days ago and I feel like not only did I win at life, but our family came back winning as a unit. Tkos and I talked about what made this trip so awesome and these are a few things we came up with…Feel free to note them for your next vacation :)

Before we left:

- We got a house/pet sitter rather than kenneling our fur baby. We felt so much more comfortable knowing he was at home getting spoiled by a dog loving grandmother.

- We didn’t pack a stroller. Our rational: We were not planning to do a bunch of adventures, more just relaxing. Plus, our monkey prefers to run rather than be strapped down.

- I packed 3 things of sunscreen.

The Vacay:

- We stayed at a beautiful resort http://www.mayanpalace.com/resorts/nuevo-vallarta

- We didn’t have internet. I know it sounds obserd, but we needed to totally disconnect and it was fab. We paid for a few hours of internet to check in on Hamish and print off boarding passes, but otherwise we were off line.

- We had no agenda. All we wanted to do was relax…and thats exactly what we did.

- We had no expectations of our 2 yr old. We thought that if she napped that would be a bonus. She napped 2-4 hours everyday and was in bed between 6-8pm.

- We went with Grandparents. Grandparents on vacation= Brilliant!

- 2 Yrs old is the perfect age to take a kiddo on a leisurely vacation. All we wanted to do was lay by the pool and beach….and Em was totally stoked to do that everyday. It helps that Em is very comfortable around water ( and we are comfortable with her around water) so maybe thats not for everyone.

- We didn’t make a list of people to bring back souvenirs for…again, no agenda.

- We took lots of pictures… no surprise there.

- We took time apart, and time together. Trystan spent a day surfing and I spent a day at the spa. But we also got to do dinners together, movies, lazy rivers, and naps together.

When we got home:

- We travelled Saturday-Saturday, so when we got home, we had a whole day to be at home and unpack and chill out in our space.

I honestly don’t have many complaints about our vacation, and the ones I do have are so minimal (ie. I missed a good starbucks) that they really are not complaints at all. But if I could make suggestions to people planning to travel with toddlers on vacay….I guess this would be my bit of advice.
